Dick Carlier is autodidact, maar het schilderen heeft hij thuis met de paplepel binnengekregen. Bij de familie zit de schilderkunst al eeuwen in de genen. Een van zijn verre voorouders was een leerling van Rubens en o.a. in Luik is werk van Carliers uit vroeger eeuwen te zien.. Maar Dick is een van de vele Carliers die momenteel de kunst een warm hart toedraagt. Hij specialiseerde zich in aquarel en wel “en plein air “. Dat wil zeggen dat hij zich laat inspireren door wat hij waarneemt, buiten in de natuur,in de stad in de haven enz. De gesprekken die ontstaan met voorbijgangers tijdens zijn aquarelsessies geven daar nog een extra dimensie aan. Zij zijn te lezen o.a. bij BLOGS.
Biography of Dick Carlier, visual artist.
For 35 years I have practised the art of painting with water colours. I don’t have to lock up myself in a studio to make a beautiful painting. Being outside in nature, the so called painting 'en plein air' is my favourite way of working. Meeting people, which often happens if you paint somewhere in nature or working at a nice spot in a village or town, the ever changing light, the beauty of the scenery and atmosphere are all ideal to inspire me. I am associated with the Centre of Visual Arts in Rotterdam and exhibit quite often and I am happy to know that my work gets a lot of attention. I have had exhibitions in well known international hotels such as 'Hotel Des Indes' in the Hague, the 'Parkhotel' and the 'Euromast' both in Rotterdam, the medieval castle 'Loevesteijn', in various galleries and for instance: decorated the carriage house of the electric Tram in Rotterdam. Nobody looking at my paintings will miss the message which is: “Enjoy the beauty around you....”
